On Saturday, 16th April 1960, while on a concert tour in the United Kingdom, and after performing at the Bristol Hippodrome, 21-year-old Eddie Cochran died in a traffic accident when his hired taxi hit a lamp-post travelling through Chippenham, Wiltshire, on route to London Heathrow airport at about 11.50 p.m.
The speeding taxi crashed into a lamp post on Rowden Hill. He died in St. Martin's Hospital, Bath at 4:10 p.m. the following day of severe head injuries.
